Veterinary care with heart and mind

Recently, Knack published an opinion piece by Sarne De Vliegher titled “Veterinary care is not cheap – nor should it be”.
We find this article particularly interesting and above all honest. It clearly explains why veterinary medicine today is what it is: high-tech, specialized, and costly — and rightly so.

Veterinary medicine in 2025 has become highly technological

MRI, laser surgery, 3D-printed implants, advanced diagnostics… These are techniques we know from human medicine, but they have now also found their place in equine medicine.

Animals do not have social security

However, there is one major difference compared to human healthcare: animals do not have social security.
Every treatment, every device, and every staff member — from cleaning staff to European-accredited specialists — must be paid for by the owner.
As De Vliegher rightly says, veterinary care may seem expensive, but it simply shows what care really costs.

Equide Veterinary Practice is a fully independent clinic

At Equide, we are proud to remain a completely independent practice.
This means that we set our own prices, without the influence of large investment groups.
We do so with common sense, transparency, and respect: our rates reflect both the level of specialization we offer and the modern technologies we use.

Wouter and our team strive every day to provide the best possible care for each horse, while taking into account each owner’s financial possibilities.
We always prioritize the horse’s well-being and, together with the owner, look for a feasible and high-quality treatment plan.

We know this is a sensitive topic.
That’s why we’d love to hear what you, our clients and followers, think about it.
