Why is a sedation essential?

A thorough mouth examination and/or dental treatment constitute a very unnatural procedure for horses. In the vast majority of animal species (e.g. cats and dogs) general anesthesia is required for such procedures. Fortunately, in horses, a mild sedation is almost always sufficient. The intravenously administered medication makes your horse less anxious and tense and allows us to treat your horse safely and accurately. Sedation is almost always indispensable, both from an animal welfare, ergonomic and safety point of view.

Sedation may only be administered by a licensed veterinarian. Wouter Demey is a certified equine veterinarian and will treat your horse with expertise. The risks associated with each administration of medication and surgical procedures are thus reduced to a minimum.
